We know moving to a new city can sometimes be overwhelming. We hope this page will make your move a little easier.
Utility services (electric, water, gas) are provided through Macon Municipal Utilities. Please access their website (maconutilities.com) for more information.
City taxes on real estate and personal property can typically be paid after October 1st in the office of the City Collector which is located inside City Hall, 106 W. Bourke Street, or mailed to Macon City Collector, PO Box 445, Macon, MO 63552. Payment may also be made via this website on the Collector page.
Taxes become delinquent after December 31st. A 2% per month penalty will be added after that date.
County tax bills are separate from City tax bills. The County taxes are due the same time and are to be paid at the County Court House complex to the County Collector.
The City of Macon requires city stickers on all licensed vehicles of Macon residents. Personal property taxes must be paid before stickers can be issued. City sticker fees are based on the number of cylinders of the vehicle as follows:
- 4 cylinders $1.50 Pickup ½ ton $1.75
- 6 cylinders $2.50 Pickup ¾ to 2 tons $3.50
- 8 cylinders $3.50 Truck 2 to 8 tons $5.00
GOLF CARTS & UTV's
Golf carts and UTV's may be operated on city streets if an individual has purchased a special permit from the city. The individual must carry the special city permit on them when operating the golf cart/UTV on city streets.

Business Licenses are a requirement for most businesses within the city limits of Macon. For more information, please contact the office of the City Collector, (660)-395-6840.
The City of Macon requires all dog owners to have their dog(s) licensed. Dog tags may be purchased at the office of the City Collector. Proof of rabies vaccination from a licensed veterinarian must be provided at time of licensing or a license cannot be issued. Dog tags are due July 1st of each year.
Most building projects require a building permit before you can begin construction. Please contact Code Enforcement at (660)395-2632 for more information.
YARD CLIPPINGS, LEAVES
Lawn clippings and leaves can be taken to the compost site on Blees Industrial Drive. There is a charge for depositing yard clippings at our compost site. See the Compost Site page for a listing of fees. The site is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during daylight savings time, and from 2:00 p. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays during the winter. The compost site also accepts, for a fee, branches and brush no larger than 6 inches in circumference (no root balls allowed).
As mowing season begins, the City of Macon would like to remind our citizens that it is unlawful for any person to throw or dump yard clippings or other similar materials upon the streets, alleys, highways, or other public places of the city.
Any person convicted of violating this City Code is subject to a $100 Fine. Questions may be directed to Police Chief Adam Dawdy at 660-385-2195.
DERELICT VEHICLE ORDINANCE
A derelict vehicle is described as a vehicle that is inoperable, partially or wholly dismantled, wrecked, junked, or of similar condition which is left unaccompanied on private property for more than 30 days. Such vehicles are prohibited by city ordinance and keeping such a vehicle on your property can result in a fine and the vehicle being impounded by the Police Department.
In instances of drought, the Fire Chief may ban discharge of all fireworks inside Macon City limits. Generally, Consumer Grade fireworks of certain Class restrictions are allowed to be discharged within the city limits. Fireworks may be discharged from July 1st through July 5th and on New Year Eve*(see dates/times below), use of consumer fireworks outside of those dates/time is prohibited in Macon City limits. Fireworks may not be discharged on any city street or public right-of-way. Fireworks are not allowed to be discharged on City owned property without special permit. The City of Macon contracts residential trash collection with Advanced Disposal, LLC. The charge for this service is passed on to the residents. Please contact Macon Municipal Utilities to see on what day your trash will be collected (660)385-3173. Curbside collection of bagged trash will be made once per week on your designated trash day. Trash bags should not exceed 30 gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds. Please have your trash on the curb by 6:00 a.m. Advanced Disposal will also collect one bulk item per week on your regular pickup day. Carpeting will be collected but must be cut into 4 foot sections, rolled up and tied.
Advanced Disposal, LLC will not pick up such items as tires, electronics, batteries, construction debris, and any items containing Freon such as refrigerators and air conditioners.
